Old Town flea market at the Hohes Ufer kicks off the summer season

Every Saturday, the banks of the Leine along the old town turn into one of northern Germany's most traditional flea markets.

The Old Town flea market at the Hohes Ufer is considered the oldest flea market in Germany and has been held every Saturday along the banks of the Leine since the 1960s. Between the Beginenturm, the Marktkirche and the Nanas on the Leibnizufer, stalls offer antiques, bric-a-brac and crafts. In the summer months, the market regularly attracts several thousand visitors. The city points out that the adjoining old town, with its half-timbered houses, can easily be explored on foot.
